JOHN DUNLOP PHILADELPHIA UNIVERSITY HEAD COACH JOHN DUNLOP ANNNOUNCES RESIGNATION

Philadelphia University Head Men's Soccer Coach John Dunlop announced his resignation on Thursday, December 12th, effective immediately. A Philadelphia native, Dunlop will focus on outside business ventures after serving as the Rams head coach for seven seasons and an assistant for two.

"This was a very hard decision to make, but I've been presented some opportunities, outside of soccer, that I feel I need to pursue," said Dunlop. "It has been a wonderful nine years for me, allowing me the opportunity to work with a great group of student-athletes on the soccer field while also forging several lifelong relationships at both Philadelphia University and other schools as well."

Dunlop came to the University in 1994 as an assistant coach to Jesse Myers and took over the University's lone Division I program in 1996. During his tenure, Dunlop accumulated a 60-69-5 mark that included three Philadelphia Soccer Seven championships and one Atlantic Soccer Conference (ASC) title. Along the way, Dunlop was named Soccer Seven Coach of the Year on two occasions, in 1996 and once again in 1999, and was also tabbed the ASC Coach of the Year in 2001 after leading the Rams to the championship in the league's second year of existence. Former players that performed under Dunlop include current Philadelphia Kixx standout Pat Morris, as well as current Villanova University assistant coach Bryan Sullivan. As a player himself, Dunlop was a four-year starter at Temple University after a standout prep career at George Washington High School that saw him earn All-State honors twice.

"John has been a great coach and a great ambassador for Philadelphia University and we will miss him dearly," said Director of Athletics Tom Shirley. "On the field, he has helped continue the tradition of Rams' soccer and off the field, he has been a very good friend. We wish him luck with his future endeavors."
