Sullivan Picked In Fifth Round of the MLS Draft The West Islip native is headed to the Colorado Rapids
Garden City, N.Y. - Senior defender Gary Sullivan (West Islip, N.Y.) was selected by the Colorado Rapids as the fifth pick in the fifth round of the 2004 Major League Soccer (MLS) SuperDraft as announced today.
"I was a little nervous, said Sullivan, who listened to the draft on the radio. "When I heard my name, at first I didn't know how to react, but it is very exciting."
Joining the MLS means withdrawing from classes, as Sullivan will be expected to report to pre-season training in Florida some time next month. Then it is off to Colorado with the season-opener in April.
Sullivan anchored the Adelphi defense this season, guiding the Panthers to a record of 8-6-3, finishing the season with five points (2G, 1A). During his four-year career, he made 71 starts for 16 points (6G, 4A). He is a three-time all-conference selection (Atlantic Soccer Conference), a three-time All-New York selection and a 2003 M.A.C. Hermann Trophy nominee.
The 2004 MLS SuperDraft was held in conjunction with the 2004 National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Convention. For a complete listing of the draft picks, log onto www.MLSnet.com. |
