LIU HOLDS OFF NJIT, 3-2
Blackbirds Score Three In First Five Minutes

NEWARK, N.J. – The Long Island University men’s soccer team scored three goals in the first four minutes, 40 seconds, then held on for a 3-2 victory over host New Jersey Institute of Technology in non-league action Tuesday night at Lubetkin Field.

Long Island (4-4-3) received a goal from junior Mustapha Ayoub (Toronto, Canada) just 59 seconds into the match. Ricardo Ordain (Brooklyn, NY) converted a penalty kick in the third minute, and Ayoub struck again at 4:40 for the three goal lead on the Blackbirds’ first three shots.

NJIT (0-11) responded on Sean Pyne’s (Hillsborough, NJ) first collegiate goal. The Highlanders moved closer in the 11th minute of the second half when they converted a free kick situation, with Mario Douglas (Gasparillo, Trinidad) finishing the play. However, NJIT could garner just one shot attempt in the final 34 minutes.

Omer Rozen (Israel) assisted on both of Ayoub’s goals for LIU, which had a 32-5 shot advantage and a 10-2 edge in corner kicks. Collin Cunning (Belfast, ME/Belfast Area) made nine saves for NJIT.
