FIU Men's Soccer Downs Oneonta State, 2-1

Juniors Carron Williams (Santa Cruz, Trinidad) and Lucas Scudeler (Sao Paolo, Brazil) each scored a goal to lead the Florida International University men's soccer team over Atlantic Soccer Conference opponent Oneonta State, 2-1, at University Park on Friday evening.

With the win, the Golden Panthers improve to 4-4-0 overall and 2-0-0 in the conference, while the Red Dragons drop their third straight to fall to 4-7-0 and 0-1-0 in the ASC.

Just under 10 minutes into the game, Williams got FIU on the board with his third goal of the season. The speedy junior forward took quick passes from the Brazilian pair of freshman Edgard Correa (Sao Paolo, Brazil) and Scudeler, and headed the ball into the goal.

Despite outshooting Oneonta State 12-3 in the first period, the Golden Panthers managed just a 1-0 lead at the half.

Scudeler added the game-winning goal for FIU in the 60th minute. On a free kick, he passed the ball to Correa, who immediately returned the ball to Scudeler, who then drilled the ball over a wall of Red Dragon defenders into the net for his second goal of the season.

Oneonta State was outshot 18 to 7 over the game, but capitalized on a penalty kick by senior Chris Spence (North Miami Beach, FL/North Miami Beach) in the 81st minute. Spence's kick was good for the Red Dragons' lone goal of the game.

FIU sophomore goalkeeper Shawn Crowe (Aurora, CO/Regis Jesuit) picked up the win for the Golden Panthers, playing all 90 minutes in goal and grabbing four saves. Freshman Timothy Melia finished with two saves for Oneonta State.

The FIU men's soccer team will hit the road for its next three matches. The Golden Pathers have a two-game conference road swing, starting at Philadelphia on Friday, Oct. 15, and then head south to Howard on Sunday, Oct. 17. FIU travels to Jacksonville on Tuesday, Oct. 26, for a rescheduled game before returning home for the FIU Invitational from Friday, Oct. 29, through Saturday, Oct. 30, featuring FIU, St. John's, South Florida and Fairleigh Dickinson.
