Hartwick To Host Longwood in ASC Opener
Lancers Make Conference Debut

ONEONTA, NY – Hartwick College will play host to Longwood University on Sunday afternoon on Elmore Field in the Atlantic Soccer Conference opener for both teams, as the Lancers make their debut in the league.

Longwood, 2-5-1 this season, is the newest member of the ASC, having joined the league this year after Florida International defected to Conference USA.

“It’s exciting to create a new rivalry,” said Hartwick College head coach Ian McIntyre. “Longwood has played a good schedule so far this season.” Two of the Lancers’ five losses have come to teams ranked in the top 10, falling to #4 Virginia and #7 Duke.

“They are an organized, disciplined team,” said McIntyre of his scouting report on Longwood. “They’ll be difficult to break down, and given that this is the first time we’ll meet they are still a bit of an unknown quantity.”

What’s known for Hartwick is that the Hawks have two of the best freshmen in the league, as Austin McCann (Broken Arrow HS/Jenks, Ok.) (4-3-11) and John Paul Boyle (Trinity/Renfrew, Scotland) (4-2-10) are the top two scorers in the conference.

Hartwick junior goalkeeper Josh Wagenaar (Beamsville/Grimsby, Ontario) lowered his goals-against average to 0.97 after stopping six shots in 110 scoreless minutes against Syracuse earlier this week.

Hartwick takes a 5-3-1 record into Sunday’s match, but with a conference tournament now looming at the end of the ASC campaign, McIntyre has his team focused on today’s match and the upcoming conference slate.

“It’s a whole new season for us now. The last nine games were meant to prepare us for conference play. We’re excited to start the conference schedule, and there is no better way to start it than at Elmore Field.

Kickoff for the match is at 1:00.
