Monday, November 12, 2001 FLORIDA INTERNATIONAL'S MATIAS ASOREY NAMED 2001 ASC PLAYER OF THE YEAR (FIU's Handy Named Top Rookie; Philadelphia University's Dunlop Named Coach of Year) PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Florida International University midfielder Matias Asorey (Miami, Fla./Sunset) was named the Atlantic Soccer Conference (ASC) Player of the Year on Monday, in voting done by the league's coaches. A junior, Asorey has tallied 13 points on five goals and three assists this season in helping the Golden Panthers to a 10-6-0 record overall. Florida International freshman Allen Handy, meanwhile, earned ASC Rookie of the Year honors. In 16 games, Handy has collected a goal and two assists for four points from his defender position. Head Coach John Dunlop of Philadelphia University earned ASC Coach of the Year honors. After going just 2-6-0 in league play last season, Dunlop guided the Rams to the 2001 ASC Championship with a 5-1-0 mark in the conference. | ||
